Hi all - you most certainly do not want to contact the police or a military
base, unless it is the Marine Corps, or your object will be destroyed. A
previous post by Bob Neyland, Head, Underwater Archaeology, NHHC detailed
this very issue with regard to UXO. The Marines can deal with this without
destroying your object if you can find someone at one of their bases to
take this on. The more important issue here is that the object will
deteriorate significantly without immediate and appropriate conservation.
