I've recently gone from promoting my beginning beekeeper classes to trying
to talk people out of taking up beekeeping.
That said, Mark is correct that beekeeping is tough for those not willing
or able to keep evolving their practices. And I agree with Charlie that I
see more beekeepers making a decent living these days than ever before.
In answer to what people can do, tell them not to let Trump and the
Republicans cut funding to the EPA! Without a strong EPA, bees have little
chance in ag areas. Support small-scale agriculture, which is typically
more environmentally friendly. Support any group working for wildlife or
habitat conservation.
