I totally agree with your statement here regarding your operation as you are selecting for breeding materials. My point was for general beekeepers who are only honey producers or pollinators. Monitoring and making decision for treatment are entirely a different ball game for commercial operations. These beekeepers have 1000's of hives they need to make a quick reliable decision to determine to treat or not. I have spent too much time talking to epidemiologists to provide some insights. For epidemiologists honey bees are different kind of animal not like their cow, dogs, birds or human, etc. This is why we need to invest more time to study sampling and monitoring honey bees  for Varroa plans to come up with an answer to help.
