Hello,
I am looking for strategies to define and evaluate archaeological railroading sites within historic railroad right of ways. I am interested in how different states define when an abandoned rail line becomes an archaeological property and any established evaluation protocols for railroad properties. This research is for an update of the "Railroads in Minnesota (1862-1956)" MPDF to include archaeological resources.(The MPDF can be found at http://www.dot.state.mn.us/culturalresources/railroads.html)

I am also interested in examples of evaluations of railroad properties such as depots, rail yards, railbeds, roundhouses, or other infrastructure or properties associated with building or maintaining railroads. If you could share thoughts on the problems with evaluation of these kinds of sites, electronic copies of evaluations, or any other insights, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Sigrid Arnott
