I'd argue it's necessary to keep records on individual hives if you own
less than 100, less so after that.
If you lose a hive when you own 50 hives, you lost 2% of your hives and it
is important to know why and avoid it next time. If you lose a hive when
you own 1,000 you may count the 0.1% loss as a cost of doing business, and
it's less important to know why and avoid it next time.
