This is also a frustration of mine--that the "common knowledge" is that
dysentery equates to nosemosis. That notion was highly questionable even
with N apis, and is completely unfounded now that N ceranae has largely
displaced N apis.
This leads to anecdotal misinformation, such as when a survey asks: "In
your opinion, what factors were the most prominent cause (or causes) of
colony death," and then has a box for nosema, yet does not ask for
confirmation of diagnosis by microscopy. Many respondents, seeing
dysentery, will likely incorrectly assume that if they saw dysentery, that
the colony died from nosema.
