If my memory is reliable (an increasingly unlikely event, unfortunately) Julian Steward and Omer Stewart were both heavily involved with Indian Land Claims in the Great Basin area. There’s a brief note from Stewart in American Anthropologist 89 as part of a discussion about expert witnesses that might be of some interest.

Also, depending on where you are going with your project, it might be useful at some point to contrast the Indian Land Claims settlements with the way aboriginal land claims were addressed in Alaska, through the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act. Both ethnologists and Natives were heavily involved in developing ANCSA, and there might be some instructive differences. Just a thought.
