You might try Ray Von Wanruska with the University of Idaho chemistry department. He's been working with Mark Warner analyzing material from historic sites for several years now.

Dear HISTARCH
I am lookin for recommendations for someone to undertake residue analysis from a sealed 19th century stoneware vessel associated with a Southern root doctor or conjurer.
Any advice is appreciate....I would probably want someone to take the samples as well but probably could arrange that locally.
Many thanks
