​I have a recollection of Andy Nachbar asserting that bees do not eat
pollen at all.  Rather, they add water, perhaps nectar (?) to the surface
of the pollen plug stored in a cell, and when that slurry ferments, the
bees drink the solution through their proboscis.  This is a vague
recollection and I am unsure of the specifics.  Neither have I searched the
archives - I do not know what search article I would use to find the post
that I am sure is there.  But I a confident of the recollection, and if
Andy told me honey bees were going to play Carnegie Hall tomorrow at noon,
I'd buy tickets and attend the show!
