Not clear if you are asking about environmental archaeology, but here in
Louisiana Dr.Mark Rees at the Univ. Of Louisiana Lafayette has a collaborative program with the Coushatta Tribe of Louisiana that is very interesting. It grew out of a long study
summarizing the locations of historic Coushatta Sites from the 18th centurybto now.
The tribe is interested in that archaeology now in Louisiana.
Here at Northwestern State University we have a history of working with the Tunica-Biloxi Tribe on Survey of their reservation area in Avoyelles Parish now.
Collaborative efforts there date back to 1961. Tribal protocols for research continue to
develope and encourage us to develope new approaches to find and avoid sacred
areas, cemeteries, etc. Tribal traditionalists provided models for the definition of
these areas and that has led to preservation areas. The excavations at theTrudeau
Site by Jeff Brain (Harvard) have led to a synthesis of Tunica archaeology both n the reservation and on former documented Tunica sites. Well before N.A.G.P.R.A.
the Tunica-Biloxi were involved in repatriation and conservation of material culture from tribal sites.
There is a literature for this tribe ,at least , for Louisiana.
I suggest you contact the tribal governments for this information.many are involved with Cultural Resource rally acknowledManagement of tribal resources, including
historical archaeology. Repatriations frequently lead to re-inhumations on tribal,land
a sort of reverse archaeology and tribal councils and repatriation committees
deal with that. Federally acknowledged tribes will have a uyyhhhTribal Historic Preservation Officer (T.H.P.O.) who likely can help,you.
