Writing as a former SHA Newsletter editor, I'd like to take a moment to remember David Starbuck's contributions to the latter in his role as the Current Research Coordinator for the northeastern United States (for Newsletter purposes, New England and New York State).
He was one of the longest-serving Newsletter coordinators; I don't know precisely when he started, but he certainly began before I become editor in January 2008, continuing in that capacity until his death. David was also one of the most reliable Newsletter contributors, sending me copy for almost every issue in my 11 years in post, and also making a point to attend almost all of our 7:00 am committee meetings during SHA conferences. He made many important contributions in those meetings, and was an important part of the SHA Newsletter family; I valued his advice.
This might perhaps not be on the same level as some of his other contributions to our discipline, as listed in his obituary, but with this year's (virtual and online) SHA conference just around the corner, I thought it was worth commemorating.
