Emily,

There is a very big difference between looters and avocational archaeologists. For avocationals, try:

De Angelo, G. 1996 Archaeology in the Future: the Role of the Avocational. In A Golden Chronograph for Robert E. Funk edited by C. Lindner and E.V. Curtin, pp. 45-48. Occasional Papers in Northeastern Anthropology No. 15. Archaeological Services, Bethlehem, CT.

For dealing with looted sites, there's a lot more literature, like:

Ehrenhard, J.E., ed.
199? Coping with Site Looting: Southeastern Perspectives. Readings in Archeological Resource Protection Series No. 1, National Park Service.

Anderson, D.G. and V. Horak, eds.
1993 Site Destruction in Georgia and the Carolinas. Readings in Archeological Resource Protection Series No. 2, National Park Service.

Subject: Working with looters readings?

Does anyone know of any citations or readings regarding the pros/cons of working with looted collections or those procured by avocational archaeologists or how archaeologists can better work with looters/avocational archaeologists. Thanks!
