Regarding AFB, Debbee Corcoran asked, "Does anyone know for sure how
their hives got this?" That's like asking where you caught your last
cold. You can pick up a cold anywhere; knowing for certain the source
is impossible. The most common source for a new infestation of AFB is
from contaminated honey, be it from a robbed out hive or a discarded
jar from a garbage heap. I agree with the speculation that AFB is not
as prevalent as it was decades ago. I speculate further that with
mites and vectored viruses hives don't live long enough to get AFB!
Personal speculation, no hard data.
