The beach and sea bed close to the plant in question (Dounreay) is "well
known" for having very "hot" particles (some containing low millions of
becquerels) that were sourced from the nuclear fuel reprocessing aplant and
flushed into the sea in the 1970s. In this regard it is a very unusual
environment.
