In this study, they found that if you force bees that need carbohydrate as their main nutrient, like foragers, to overeat a high-protein low-carbohydrate formula just to get the carbohydrate they need, the bees die sooner. The study also traced how the "Nutritional intake target of worker bees shifts towards carbohydrate with age and caste" which IMO differentiates how bees use protein from other livestock.
