Thanks Rebekah. I checked the literature, and found that some laying
workers may indeed produce retinue pheromone (I thought that the problem
was mainly due to the workers in a LW colony simply being old--old bees
don't accept queens well).
So there is indeed merit for the double screen method, especially if one
does not have enough queenright colonies at hand to perform simpler
combines.
