Hi all
Regarding queen marking, I meant to add:
When I worked at the Dyce Lab, I raised some queens for lab use. Prof Calderone instructed me to emerge the cells in an incubator and mark the virgin queens. I had never heard of this before and was skeptical that it might interfere with acceptance and mating. But no, we had excellent acceptance of the virgins, which we introduced using cages plugged with sugar. The mating success was normal. I don't have the figures, but I recall we got about 95% or so accepted and mated (this was in the summer).
