Yes. Very old news - everyone here thought that it would arrive in 2015 - and, of course, it may have done so.
Why would it arrive with plants? It could easily fly across the channel with a following wind - plenty of other insects do e.g. huge numbers of hoverflies.
Last but not least, the pictures are of the Mandarin hornet (Vespa mandarinia) - not the Asian hornet (Vespa velutina). Of course the Mandarin hornet makes a much better story for some sectors of the Press as it is far bigger (the Asian hornet, Vespa velutina, is smaller than our native hornet, Vespa crabro).
