Following Pete, bees recognize plastic frames as "wax," so see any break
between plastic frames as a break in the comb, so set about repairing the
break. Will also repair the break if there is any beeswax on the underside
of the cover.
On the other hand, as Langstroth recognized, if there is a break between
wood parts that is of beespace dimension, the bees don't attempt to fill it
with comb nor propolis.
