The thought for jumbos was that the brood chamber would not be lifted and the extra depth of the frame would give the queen room on 10 or 9 working frames (according to C.P. Dadant) with a follower board. Only honey supers would be moved during the season. In making splits, etc., combs would be removed from one box before moving. The Dadants seemed to be very successful with this brood box.
