I disagree with this. The number of hives in the US is officially near 3 million, but may be more like 4 million due to undercounting. How many go to almonds, 1.7 million? Maybe half, maybe less than half.
According the Honey Board: "There are an estimated 115,000 – 125,000 beekeepers in the United States," so an overwhelming majority of these does not do almond pollination.
