In those studies Randy was the drift generalized and random? Or were some colonies more likely to contribute and other colonies more likely to receive drifting bees, and if so was there anything remarkable about those particular colonies?

I was told long ago by a second generation beekeeper that back when they set up bees as singles in long lines (his dad would actually establish a string line to keep all hive perfectly straight) that in a honey flow the hives the furtherest down wind would invariable capture the largest quantity of surplus honey. I would expect the same pattern by the water hauling bees. In an experiment I have witness some students do here with my own hives using marked drones the drones seem to wander from hive to hive.
