Really, what's the source of protein in the nectar? Does the plant secrete nectar with high protein, is the protein from contamination with pollen?  I wouldn't expect to see any significant amount of protein in nectar.  Does heather produce both nectar and pollen that would be collected by bees, or is it mainly a nectar source?  Not much heather around here in MT.
