Your answer to my question regarding how soil residues are determined was detailed and informative, thank you very much.
I suppose it would be cost prohibitive for the EPA or FDA to actually go to different fields using registered pesticides, fungicides, and fertilizers and spot-check those soils directly.
But at least they are relying on some good bench work to estimate what is going on. I believe that the chemist I spoke with (he said he was a "soils chemist") mentioned mathematical modeling using data that you describe as the method by which degradation rates and so on are calculated. I'm not a chemist, so I may not remember what he said accurately. As you wrote, they are also using information provided by the product registrants. I do remember that he was quite concerned, that did stick with me.
