Hello from Cyprus (it is an island in the Eastern Mediterranean and
not a tree!),
Most professional beekeepers here use a single full
depth Langstroth as a brood chamber with a queen excluder on all the
time. This is all our bees need and any incoming nectar is put straight
into the supers which are either full depth or, as I personally prefer,
3/4 depth which are solely for honey storage. At the end of the season
the supers are removed with the aid of a blower. Simple and effective.
We have experimented over the years with double brood, full depth and
a 3/4, double brood and then confining the queen to a single box when
the flow starts etc etc. We have found that the single brood chamber is
the best for our conditions and bees.
Best regards
Roger White.
