>What l have in mind is an annual system
that anyone can use and it does not
involve killing off the bees.
During the epidemic of CCD in 2007 I interviewed a number of those
beekeepers who continued to successfully take strong colonies to almonds.
The only factor that I noticed that they had in common was that of starting
lots of new colonies each year.
Neither they nor I kill any bees in the process. In fact, we depend upon a
market of other beekeepers for us to sell our excess bees to.
However, we are blessed with both being migratory and having an early start
to the season. Beekeepers in other areas can adapt (Oh, there's that word)
for local conditions, such as does Michael Palmer in Vermont.
