"Greasy"... clearly not DDT alone then.  

There were water-based emulsions of DDT that were developed during WWII, and
should have been in universal use by the time this spraying was done, but
what DDT replaced (at least in military pest control) was diesel.  Yup, fuel
oil.  They would spray it as both a larvacide and an adulticide. 

Could the aerial spray mix have included some form of dormant oil?  I wonder
if the court records included such detail.  Is it known what crop was
sprayed for what pest?
