Here's an idea: I accidentally discovered by wearing a yellow sweatshirt at a garden centre that the flea beetles, the principal target of neonics, are attracted to the colour yellow. I wonder how effective it would be, before the OSR (canola) comes into flower, to place yellow boards or fabric coated with glue/insecticide around the fields to reduce the breeding stock of the beetles.
I don't know whether farmers practice crop rotation as much as they used to and that might be a factor.
