Agreed Pete, and an attitude that I do not have.

Charles, with our short winters here colonies can easily overwinter in a single deep with no supers left.  The one medium super I have been leaving typically isn't used until February, at which time it is consumed in combination with incoming fresh nectar and supports a faster/stronger build up.  This in turn leads to increased production so there isn't much net loss in harvest.
