The hives I have heard growling have a queen. This season I have heard
it more often than others. Next time I hear it I will open the hive
and check it out. I generally can tell, or I think I can tell, which
side of the box it is coming from. I suspect drones but I guess I
should pull frames from that side of the box and see if drones are
there.
