I agree that for my one man 400 colony operation, it makes sense to spot check each yard to know what I'm dealing with, but then treat every colony. What is both surprising and frustrating is the high degree of variability in mite counts. I did two successive single MAQS applications in June, because in several yards I'd see mite counts of 1, 2, then 10%! Most of my late August counts are less than 3%, but I am seeing the occasional 5 or 7%. So now doing two successive Apiguard treatments.
