> However, thymol is a very effective pesticide
Right, which puts us right square in the middle of several points. One, plants can be poisonous! Two, there is nothing particular "natural" about concentrated thymol. So the whole poisonous/harmless natural/manmade double dichotomy is put to rest right here. Just because it's "natural" doesn't mean it's safe; just as just because it's manmade doesn't mean it's unnatural. This will only trouble people who prefer well defined distinctions. Very sharp distinctions do occur like the difference between ice and water, but uncertainty tends to be the rule, like the boundary between the sea and the shore.
