Some of the people involved in the opportunity below asked me to post this
to Histarch, so I am doing so now. See the links below for more
information, including addresses for queries. Note that Team 3 (referenced
below) also seeks people with expertise in community archaeology and
heritage.

Subject: Positions available for 2-5 post-docs in the study of the Ancient
Near East at the University of Helsinki, Finland

The Academy of Finland decided last June to fund a new 'Centre of
Excellence' in the study of Ancient Near Eastern Empires (ANEE). This is the
most prestigious and generous type of funding available for scientific
projects in Finland, enabling the formation of a large research group with
funding secured over a period of eight years. ANEE will begin its scientific
activity in January 2018 and run until the end of year 2025. The project is
multi-disciplinary, with teams focused on Assyriology, linguistics, digital
humanities, archaeology and sociology. For more information, please see the
project website:

https://www.helsinki.fi/en/researchgroups/ancient-near-eastern-empires

We're now hiring 2-5 post-doctoral researchers for a fixed term of 2-3
years, preferably starting on 1 January 2018, to work in the University of
Helsinki. For details on how to apply, see the job announcement at:

https://www.helsinki.fi/en/open-positions/postdoctoral-researchers-2-5-ancie
nt-near-eastern-empires-anee

The themes investigated by Team 3 are particularly relevant to
archaeologists. Previous experience of conducting fieldwork in the Near East
is not required. Although based in Helsinki, the working language of the
project is English.

The deadline for applications is October 15.
