Ptp:
Local mama is being evaluated by endocrine and is scheduled for an insulin tolerance test. She was told to find an alternate method of feeding her son (5 mo) secondary to concerns about dehydration.
The total blood drawn during the test seems to be about 30 mL over 2 hours, which does not seem to me a significant volume loss. I cannot tell if the breastfeeding prohibition is out of an abundance of caution, concern for disruption of the test by nursing signals, or based in legitimate concern regarding volume status.
Has anyone had experience with a nursing mama and an ITT? I welcome your input!
