Has anyone else tried the matchbox method for introducing a queen? The
old queen is removed and the new one is placed in the hive in a
matchbox with the entrance open just enough for contact but not enough
for entry or exit.

Back in the 1970s the Ashursts made and sold a cardboard introducing cage which was basically the same as a matchbox (but you could get hundreds and not be stuck with thousands of matches). It also had a little cellophane window so you could see if she was OK in there. Nice tool, no need to go back for the cage. As far as direct introduction, I think it is hardly worth the risk when you can use some sort of cage. JMHO
