Does the density of colonies in the area make a difference? Apart from
the beekeeper, the worst enemy of a colony of bees is another colony of
bees! Feral colonies are more likely to be relatively isolated. Tom
Seeley's observations in New York state show that bees with varroa can
survive but if the same colonies are put into an apiary they succumb.
