Good morning Christina,
To my knowledge, bees visit flowers depending on the level of sugar
concentration. Plants produce sugar for itself, but the sugar concentration
depends on the water content of the bottom and the concentration of nitrogen
in the air (photosynthesis). The energy needed in this process comes from
the sun. So too dry, no sun => low sugar concentration in the nectar => bees
unable to taste the sugar => no bees in the flowers. This statement comes
from Anna Maurizio, I believe.
Kind regards,
Ghislain De Roeck,
Belgium.
