The point being that Xerces had no interest in the fact that linden trees, especially certain species *and* in especially in drought conditions, are highly toxic to bumblebees. Instead they were all over this story for its publicity value in their crusade against neonics. Further, it shows once again that natural substances can be just as harmful as manmade ones.
