James,

Many thanks for the references, If you could send jpegs of the ads that
would be great. I had been thinking that the bracket might belong to some
form of agricultural machinery or wagon hardware, so the jump-set idea
appeals.
I'm  having trouble picturing "interlocking revolving shutters", so maybe
the description in the ad will help!
A colleague had suggested  cook stove or fireplace hardware, though the
surviving screws suggest that the bracket was attached to a wooden
substrate.
