Subject: help identifying an object
This was found in an historic and intact residential/household deposit dating to about 1940, although there are earlier items thrown in the mix (heirlooms?). I thought at first it was the wick mechanism for a lamp, but there is a wood (handle?) inside the metal part. The metal is very lightweight, chrome, I think. Pics can be viewed here:

Any help is appreciated!
Regards,
Linda
