Hi all
I have been keeping bees since the 1970s and 99% of the beekeepers I have met use 9 frames in a ten frame hive. Some even use 8 frames in the honey supers. Sure, there is more burr comb, but there also is more space so it's easier to get the frames out. Eight frames in the super means the combs are fatter and much easier to uncap. If you are using an uncapping machine, you don't have to set the blade so close. The same goes with 8 frame hives, if I used them, I would put only seven in the brood box and space them evenly. But I find 8 frame hives get tall too quickly and dislike them for that reason. If weight is an issue an all medium depth hive seems like a better plan.
