I guess the answer is 'very little' - but I was not advocating that only
so-called 'natural' treatments should be used.
In my view there is no such thing as natural beekeeping whatever you keep
them in or treat them with; so it is down to the individual beekeeper to go
with whatever he or she is comfortable with: in my case that is movable
frame hives and minimal medication (I use only thymol crystals) to give them
a fighting chance.
I am slightly uncomfortable with using thymol, but consider it to be the
least worst option - and also the least that I can do for them given that
beekeepers caused varroa to blight their lives.
