Do what marine drill sergeants do, have a strap running from each side of the head band down and around the base of the skull in back.  Sometimes they have to go through some rough acrobatics and still have their hat on their head properly.

if you want protection this is the best I have found, and cool in hot weather. veil is a little larger than normal and you have to adjust your eye focus but works well.
