At a lecture today, Professor Juliet Osborne of Exeter University
described an experiment in which marked bees were split into 3 groups.
One was untreated; one was infected with Nosema cerana by moistening
them with the juice from squashed bees that were known to have Nc; one
was treated with the juice from squashed bees not having Nc. The bees
were released a short distance from home. 11% of the untreated and of
the uninfected groups failed to make it back; 34% of those dosed with
Nc failed to get home.
