Nancy, I think I have learned to not feed pollen patties to over wintered
hives unless I want to make splits.

Likewise, I would make the decision to feed or not feed over wintered
colonies based on lifting the top box.  If light, feed.  Otherwise, do not
feed.

Congratulations on all your colonies making it over the winter.  In no
small part, I think some of that success might have been your feeding the
sugar bricks.  (I fed the brick you gave me and it was eagerly consumed.  I
look forward to making my own this fall.)  With our cold and delayed spring
I ended up feeding most hives dry sugar in March and I am certain I saved
dozens of hives from starvation!
