You are correct about scutellata - not adonsonii. As Peter mentioned this renaming happened at some time and was confusing. You may also check all literature about African bees in the Americans. It was considered adonsoni but later redefined as scutellata .
We can go on and on varroa jacobsoni and varroa destructor. Reviewing the literature has to be done with due diligence considering names.
