Big operation large budget, yes if I had that facility I would still use PCR
as it gives definitive result.

Randy did qualify his observation. Fries who originally did not that that
the two species could be discriminated by light microscopy later changed his
opinion on the matter, but did say that experience in looking at thees was
needed before the discrimination could be made.

In the UK, the scientists at the Ministry's lab at York, who have
undoubtedly 'got their eye in'  still send samples for DNA analysis for
confirmation.
