I presume that LD50 values were worked out for caged bees. Is that right? In this case the foragers were able to dilute the poison rapidly using the biomass back home of house bees and even larvae, all of whom should be capable of detoxifying the neonic. Maybe that is why honeybee colonies are more resilient than you might expect from seeing the results of experiments with isolated bees.
