"Problem with neonics is that bees fly out and do not return..." wrote Peter. Not the only problem in my view. All the target species of the neonicotiniods have natural predators, often small birds. What do they feed on when their normal food supply is destroyed? What is the effect on, for example, swallows, when they eat thousands of small insects (including honeybees) that have had a sub-lethal dose?
