Walter, there is no reason not to expect varroa to become at least somewhat
resistant to any treatment, especially if that treatment is applied year
after year without rotation. The safety factor for formic (the
concentration that kills bees divided by the concentration necessary to
kill mites) is not large. So even if varroa evolved a tolerance for
formic, you'd start killing your bees before you got good mite control.
Best to use any treatment in a complete IPM strategy, including the
rotation of treatments.
